UK Judge Colin Birss dismisses Apple’s lawsuit over Galaxy Tab’s likeness to the iPad but not without making a very subjective dismissal of the aesthetics and cultural values of the Galaxy Tab. While the front of the Tab and the iPad were similar, the back was different enough for the judge to grant a relief to Samsung. The judge also said that Apple’s design is too generic.
Apple has always strived for the utmost simplicity and straightforwardness in product designs since Steve Jobs returned to the company in 1997 but perhaps with the iPad the company went a little too straightforward to have a distinctive design.
