From 1st of October, Nokia Malaysia will abandon its Twitter account. The seemingly sudden announcement came from a tweet which cites streamlining updates as a reason for its shut down. It’s also recommending followers to subscribe to their updates on the company’s Facebook page for Nokia Malaysia.

While it doesn’t look like it’s leaving social media, leaving Twitter means leaving many Malaysian Nokia fans on the social network. On the other hand, it doesn’t look like @nokiamy is a popular account in the first place with fewer than 5200 followers as of today, whereas its Facebook account has nearly 127,000 likes with a healthy amount of likes and comments per post.

Although it seems unfortunate, perhaps Nokia’s Malaysian customer base and fans just aren’t engaging on Twitter enough for it to maintain a presence.
