The “openness” of Android hasn’t really bore fruit for most of the mobile companies that have picked up on it. The second most popular Android brand has been losing profits in every quarter this year and apparently could be losing money by the end of the year. Samsung has managed to overpower just about everyone on the platform and claim it for itself in its drive to defeat Apple’s iPhone, leaving companies like HTC, Motorola, Sony, and LG bleeding and desperate. There doesn’t seem to be an answer for other Android phone makers to survive in this market and even HTC’s Windows Phone 8 effort isn’t convincing enough for analysts to see the company turning its fortunes around.
