While it’s not such a lofty goal, it certainly is a realistic one. Microsoft’s mobile OS is inching higher and higher towards that third spot in Europe which is currently being held by BlackBerry. With 83% of the European market belonging to iOS and Android, it’s a huge task to get second or even first, but catching up to RIM’s platform is not out of the question.
RIM is unlikely to release its BlackBerry 10 devices before the year is out and even then, it might not even appear until later in the first quarter of 2013. In the meantime, Microsoft will be launching Windows Phone devices from Samsung, Nokia, and HTC, long before Christmas which means that it will have a much better chance in gaining sales during the all important Christmas shopping season. Will it be able to withstand the stampede for iPhone 5 and Android phones and carve a niche for a solid foundation?
