Burpple introduces Explore to help people discover great food
iOS-based food journal Burpple released version 1.2 today with a brand new feature called Explore. Taking a cue from Foursquare, the app emphasizes on location, discovery, and friend-finding. Photos of food that have had their locations tagged are laid out on a map and used to assist Burpple users to discover great food near them. Given the proclivity of food photography across many photo sharing sites, Burpple is taking advantage of that fact and pushing it further to become a food discovery network.
Among the app’s top ten countries five are from Southeast Asia while the other five are United States, Canada, China, Japan, and Australia. Burpple is reluctant to disclose user numbers but it distributed the above infographic to show a host of different metrics including the fact that 20% of its American members cook their own food, or at least they claim to, and dinner is the most photographed meal time.
