Google introduces the knowledge graph.
The Knowledge Graph is a huge collection of the people, places and things in the world and how they’re connected to one another. With this technology, Google can get you the best possible answers and help jump start your discovery.
Which among you still remember this brazen startup that tried to take on Google on its own game? Despite the efforts of two former Googlers, a former IBM employee, and the founder of Alta Vista, this difficult to pronounce search startup shut down in 2010 and at least one of them had been back at Google since.
Cuil failed due to a lot of factors, some of which include massive overhype and a terrible showing at launch, something that they’ve never managed to fix. For a startup looking to best Google at search, its search results were erratic, to the point of almost useless. Now, Google apparently had picked up Cuil’s patent applications to add to its own, most likely to protect itself from potential litigations just in case.
